ArtWorks is not really a store, rather it is an ever evolving experiment. It remains in flux to; a) fend off boredom for yours truly, and b) to try new things (and consequentially cut your losses when those new things don't work)
I do not mean to bore you with history...but I will anyhow!
Last year ArtWorks hosted a "Post Apocalyptic" art show where the participating artists imagined themselves living in a dramatically different world. This world would be nomadic by nature and survivors would carry everything they owned with them. Their art would have to be concealed, so each piece was hidden, carried in secret.
The art was hidden amongst the rubble and wreckage of this new world. It was dark in the gallery and pieces would have to found with flashlights.

That show changed everything. The people who saw the exhibit spent a lot of time in the gallery, they came back, and brought friends. People resonated with the art work, they cared because they were part of the experience. I knew at that moment that there could no longer be any compromise in the gallery.
So what does this have to do with the store you may be asking? Well it has taken a while but the entire store should be driven by the same principle.

2013 ArtWorks Project list:1-The Puppet Underground Theater and classroom space is being moved so there is direct access from the shop. This is a nightmare so anyone who would like to lend a helping hand would be appreciated!
2-Art Supplies are being moved to make space for more "cool stuff" Think Etsy like stuff, awesome handmade cool things, and curiosities! We are featuring local as well as out of state consignors.
3-Art Books...artists LOVE art books, it's as simple as that. We are collecting, (and buying) books and will be selling them at half price. Unless its too amazing to sell, then I'm keeping it for myself! Bwahaha!
4-Used art supplies: this one is still in the planning stage, as we try to figure out how to work this. A lot of people have supplies that they will never use again, that is a sad predicament for a tube of paint! I would like to have a small section of space devoted to reselling art supplies at discounted prices, everyone wins!
5-The gallery has been reconfigured as we welcome the office of Kelle Dame Interiors upstairs in the mezzanine. It certainly helps class the place up a bit.
6- Left of the Lake Publishing. The magazine and a group of mini artists books featuring local artists will be hitting the shelves this year
more to come...
